WHAT
IS DETAILING?
- Automobile
detailing is the practice of performing an extremely thorough
cleaning and polishing of an automobile, both inside and out.
Elements of exterior detailing include washing, claying, polishing,
waxing or sealing. Interior detailing involves the cleaning of the
interior of a vehicle using vacuums, liquid cleaners, and brushes.
Engine detailing involves cleaning the engine bay area of dirt and
grease by using degreasers and all-purpose cleaners.
WHY SHOULD I HAVE MY VEHICLE DETAILED?
-
Professional
detailing is the best form of preventive maintenance for your
automobile. Long-term exposure to acid rain, UV rays and dirt will
harm your exterior and interior finish. Detailing will help your
vehicle maintain a new appearance and provides environmental
protection. Most likely your vehicle was purchased with only limited
protection. Dealerships only use products designed to make the
vehicle look good to potential buyers, without providing lasting
protection. Pre-owned vehicles will often have unpleasant interior
odors, dirty carpets and upholstery, scratched or oxidized paint,
and a dirty engine compartment. These and many other problems can be
corrected with a thorough detail. If you plan on selling your
automobile, having it detailed is the best way to sell it quickly
and will often increase the value.
MY CAR HAS A CLEAR COAT ON THE PAINT AND DOES NOT
NEED WAXING.
-
The clear coat is
part of the paint process used on most cars and trucks manufactured
since the early 1990's. The first coat of paint (pigment) goes on
flat without protection or durability. The clear coat will make the
paint look translucent with a deeper shine. Pre-1990's and some
newer autos consist of a single stage paint system, where the gloss
and hardener is mixed with the color (pigment). Neither of these
paint systems come protected from the manufacturer and MUST be waxed
or sealed to protect them from the sun, pollution and other harmful
elements.
MY DEALER ADDED A PERMANENT PAINT SEALANT.
-
Sealants will last
longer than wax but still need to be re-applied every six to nine
months. If you purchased a dealer sealant package, you will find
that your contract requires you to have this re-applied at specified
periods to maintain the warranty. A good quality wax is a completely
safe alternative and will last for several months. Our best sealant
will last up to nine months!

HOW CAN I KEEP MY VEHICLE LOOKING GOOD BETWEEN DETAILS?
-
The key to keeping
your vehicle looking good is to have it vacuumed and washed
frequently. Whether the vehicle looks dirty or not, you should
perform this level of preventive maintenance every week or every
other week. This will insure that dirt and grime does not have time
to impregnate the surfaces. Dark colored finishes will always
require more frequent buffing and polishing to maintain a high
gloss. You should have your vehicle completely detailed at least
once or twice per year.
SHOULD I USE AN AUTOMATIC WASH TO CLEAN MY VEHICLE?
-
It depends on
results you would like to achieve. Automatic car washers will remove
surface dirt and grime. However, you will need professional
detailing to remove paint contamination, oxidation, swirl marks and
scratches. Automatic washers with cloth or brush applications are
often contaminated with dirt. Such contamination could potentially
damage the paint surface. Touch-less washes rely on very high
pressure and strong chemicals to remove dirt, which can do more
damage to your vehicle than any cloth or brush. The spray on wax you
purchase from a carwash is water based and will only last about a
week.
WHAT IS ENTHUSIAST GRADE PRODUCTS?
-
Detailers use
three types of products: consumer grade, professional grade, and
enthusiast grade. Consumer grade products are those found on the
shelf at local auto part stores. Some are very good, but overall
effectiveness is questionable. Professional grade products are
purchased in bulk quantities to save on cost. They are typically
good, but not exceptional. Enthusiast grade products are the cream
of the crop and are only available through limited distributors.
Professionals typically don't use these products because of the
price. The higher price doesn't necessarily reflect higher quality.
However, as with anything else, you typically get what you pay for.
We are a high-end detail business and only use enthusiast grade
products.
HOW CAN YOU DETAIL MY CAR AT MY HOME OR OFFICE?
-
Our mobile detail
unit is fully self-contained, with soft water, carpet cleaning
equipment, vacuum, electric generator, pressure washer and
professional cleaning supplies. A typical detail will average 4-6
hours and maintenance cleanings are usually 1-2 hours. At your
office, your vehicle is moved to a location where our services will
not affect other vehicles. Once the cleaning is complete, you are
notified immediately for your inspection and keys are returned. At
your home, your vehicle is typically cleaned in your drive or
garage. Upon completion, the area is cleaned and left the way it was
upon arrival.
THE LOCAL CAR WASH CAN DETAIL MY CAR AT HALF THE PRICE.
-
A complete detail
consists of a thorough cleaning of your vehicle, professional
polishing and protection of surfaces. Many car washes will not
commit to this level of cleaning, but will cover dirt with shiny,
greasy solvent-based dressings and wax. A typical Detail-N-Motion
detail will take 4-6 hours.
